Welcome. I’m Joanne.

I’m an Irish Chartered Counselling Psychologist based in Pau, France. I provide online and in-person therapy for adults.

You may be struggling with anxiety, OCD, low mood, self worth issues or the aftermath of traumatic experiences or bereavement. Or maybe you’re navigating a demanding life transition or challenges in your relationships, family or work life. You may just want to talk.

Whatever you are going through, therapy can provide a supportive space for you to make sense of your experiences and to find new ways of engaging with yourself and the world around you.

How it works

I offer individual therapy sessions to adults (18+) with appointments available Monday to Friday, 8AM – 4PM.   If you are based in Ireland our sessions will be online. If you live around Pau in France, we will meet in-person in my therapy space, which is close to the town centre.

Please contact me to discuss fees. If you have health insurance, you should be able to claim some of these costs back.

My therapy approach

I am trained in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and psychodynamic and trauma-based therapeutic models. In sessions, I draw on different therapy approaches depending on your priorities and emotional needs, whether that’s creating longer-term change or working through a specific issue.

At the core of my work is a person-centred, empathic and non-judgmental approach, where space is made for your to explore your emotions and experiences at your own pace.

About me

I am a Counselling Psychologist (C.Psychol., PsSI) and a Chartered Member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). I am also a fully accredited psychologist in France, listed on the French National Directory of Health Professionals (RPPS: 10110603569).

I hold a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from Trinity College Dublin, a Master’s in Humanitarian Action from University College Dublin and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and French from Trinity College Dublin.

I have worked across a range of clinical settings, including primary care, adult mental health, university counselling services and state psychological services for refugees and asylum seekers. Currently, I also work with a private Adult Autism and ADHD practice, providing neurodiversity-affirmative online assessments for adults across Ireland and the UK.

A key focus of my work is supporting people from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, including international expatriates navigating transitions in location, work and life circumstances.

Getting started

When you’re ready, let’s talk.

Before beginning therapy, I offer a free 10–15 minute phone consultation. This is an opportunity to discuss what you're looking for from therapy, to answer any questions you may have and to see whether working together feels like a good fit.

Your first session will involve a collaborative assessment to explore your background, current challenges and what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, we’ll decide how often we would like to meet. Typically, sessions are weekly or bi-weekly as needed. For some, one or two sessions may be enough to explore a specific issue -  others may require or prefer more time.

As we work together, we’ll have regular check-ins to revisit progress and decide on next steps.

  • A brief phone call to see if we’re a good fit.

  • We’ll explore your background, your current challenges and your hopes for therapy.

  • Weekly or bi-weekly therapy sessions, structured around your pace and priorities.

  • We periodically check in to revisit progress and next steps together.
